Retiree's Second Career

Match a long-term temporary need for a Project Engineer to a retired CAD teacher and department head, and you get a good thing that lasts for years.

Frank Horvath came to Personnel Partners in 2004 after retiring from teaching in a northern Indiana high school.  He began as an instructor in manual architectural and mechanical drawing, and later opened the first CAD drafting lab in that county, expanding it to the local career center.  With additional CAD experience applied during stints at local contractors and during summer projects, Frank was still very much a marketable candidate and not quite ready to sit around home.  He had no previous knowledge of staffing services, but responded to recruiting ads placed by Personnel Partners on behalf of its client.

Hubbell-Raco was seeking a CAD Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience who was willing to work on a temporary basis but could be open to a long-term commitment.  Frank was quickly chosen for this order and assigned to the job at market wages.  His expertise was used in new product design and in a transition to a SolidWorks 3D CAD design system.

Three years and three months (and several paid vacations) later, Frank was finally ready to relax.  We wish him well and were pleased to call Frank our employee.  Of this retirement this, time, the Product Engineering Manager at Raco made a point to say, “...Frank’s performance was outstanding and his friendship (will be) truly missed.”

Featured Client Saint Mary's College

Saint Mary’s College was founded in 1844 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.  Its educational mission is that of a Catholic women’s college dedicated to developing liberally educated women prepared to respond to the complex needs and challenges of the contemporary world.

The Human Resources office at Saint Mary’s deals with employee compensation and current/retired staff and administration benefits issues.  With this workload, it is understandable that they would turn to temporary staffing when unexpected challenges of employees going on leave or a lengthy search for a new permanent hire arise.  For St. Mary’s, cost is a factor in each decision.  When outside sources are used, the advantages are seen as the time saved, especially in last-minute situations.

Jody Harmacinski typically identifies St. Mary’s needs, spelling out the qualifications and time frame necessary.  In nearly every circumstance, these needs are clerical or administrative, making Personnel Partners’ employees a logical choice.  Referring to a temporary employee who was recently hired by St. Mary’s, Jody remarked, “...she received great praise from the department.  We were told that she did more than a day’s work in a single day.”  Our employees are always eager to accept assignments at Saint Mary’s.

Calling an institution like this a customer is a plus for Personnel Partners as we recruit candidates who seek and appreciate good work environments and clients who will value them.
