Shout-Outs
Ryan Watson, Account Representative
Ryan Watson, Account Representative, has been faithfully serving as an Ambassador for the Elkhart Chamber over the past year.  In addition to recognizing Ryan as Ambassador of the Month for his efforts, the Chamber's Ambassador Council recently nominated Ryan for an officer position.
We are also proud of Ryan's volunteer efforts as he leads a preparation-for-work class for Iraqi refugees under the direction of the Red Cross.  Ryan's part in this assimilation program is to provide training on the cultural aspects of how work is found here as well as how interviewing and networking are done.  With the assistance of a translator, Ryan prepares resumes for participants and invites those who are workforce-ready to register with Personnel Partners.  For more information on this program, contact Ryan.

Drew Dunnington, one of our temporary associates, offered to make the entire downtown South Bend community happy by serving as Santa during two major DTSB events. Placing Santa is not your typical office or administrative match, but since we are members of DTSB we wanted to do our part when asked. Thanks to Drew for making spirits brighter for South Bend families this season!

You probably won't have any trouble finding the stories in this newsletter that matter most in the heart-warming and life-saving categories.  However, we also don't mind saying that meeting the perfect new temporary employee just might warm your heart too.  Or that the impact of bringing in a skilled office worker for a project could be life-saving for your organization and its permanent staff.  Enjoy our latest collection of ideas, and we hope to hear from all of you in one way or another when you are through reading!
How to Save a Lifeblood drive
In a cause that is very dear to our hearts, all of our staff is joining South Bend Medical Foundation to host a blood drive in memory of Angela Murat, DDS, a personal friend of our team member Becky Riffel.  Will you and your staff consider participating?  This event is scheduled for Monday, December 19, and will have two convenient locations - in Elkhart at the hospital site and in Mishawaka at the West Edison facility.

There are several ways to participate that day.  If you currently have one of our temporary associates working for you, will you consider allowing them to schedule a donation during work hours if they would like to participate?  Your generosity in allowing time off work (paid or unpaid at your discretion) will be greatly appreciated if you are asked by our employees.  Secondly, we would love to have YOU join us to give blood, and invite your co-workers, friends and families as well.  To encourage participation during this busy time of year, all donors will receive their choice of a turkey or $10 gift card for groceries or gas.

Appointments can be pre-scheduled for maximum efficiency, and should be no more than 45 minutes.  To schedule yourself at the Edison Street blood drive location, click this link: Give Blood in Mishawaka.   To schedule yourself at the Elkhart blood drive location, click this link: Give Blood in Elkhart and choose the "Schedule a Blood Donation Today" option listed at the far right.  You may also request a time slot by calling Becky Riffel at 262-1960 or 234-2115.  In Elkhart, donations can also be taken on a walk-in basis at any time during regular hours that week; simply tell them you are donating for the Angela Murat blood drive hosted by Personnel Partners.  We know that many organizations sponsor worthy causes at this time of year, and hope that this will be a unique enough opportunity that you will decide to make it a personal give-back event or to use it as your organization's own cause if you are looking for a good one to support.

To make it easy for someone else to sign up and join you, forward this newsletter with the link provided at the bottom.

Angela died on October 3, 2011 after a courageous battle with lymphoma.  She is remembered by many for her generosity, which included volunteering her professional skills.  A brilliant and accomplished practitioner, Angie was known for her ease with patients and her hard work.  It was her desire to be remembered with gifts of life through blood donations.
How to Make Someone Smile
No one denies that times have been challenging for employers who need staffing but don't have the budget to add personnel.  At the City of Goshen, smart minds have looked at needs and created opportunities for temporary workers to shine.  Not only did these arrangements make some top-notch employees smile, they resulted in residents of the Goshen community calling the City with praise.

It all began with a need for administrative help at the Fire Department.  The need was temporary, but required a combination of bookkeeping knowledge and - as you might imagine - the ability to interact with a wide variety of other City departments, under pressure and while maintaining accuracy and professionalism with all duties and callers.  As Sherri Smith performed these duties, she came to the attention of others who interacted with her.  By the time her work was finished at the fire department, a need had become obvious in City Utilities.  Who better to make a move than someone who now already knew her way around many of the City's operations?  Sherri was happy to fill another temporary gap in that department.

By the conclusion of Sherri's second assignment, many other pieces of the City's plans were falling into place.  A mandated upgrade of city water meters was funded and anticipated to last for up to 10 months.  Why not use temporary customer service personnel to accomplish this?  And why not ask Sherri to provide the temporary clerical support needed for the project?  Both ideas worked, resulting in the phone calls praising another Personnel Partners employee, Dave Rodriguez.  More than one city resident made a point to compliment his work and to request that he be assigned to handle their appointments.  Dave took the temporary assignment hoping to meet and impress people who might be good to know as he searched for long-term employment and we have no doubt he is doing just that.

Don't you love it when a plan comes together?  Temporary help works in so many ways.
