Flexibility: True Story

A degreed paralegal/legal secretary, Reba was downsized from a law firm after nine years. As Reba says, the thought of "beating the pavement" looking for work was rather daunting. Her daughter suggested a staffing agency as a way to give herself an advantage in a competitive job market. Having heard of Personnel Partners’ reputation, she made us her only choice.

We evaluated Reba's resume, application, and references and selected her to interview in our offices. After that interview, she sat for computerized testing for the first time in her career, posting outstanding scores in nearly every Microsoft product. Within two weeks, one of our clients was able to use Reba for a temporary need where she was able to increase her proficiency in MS Excel, something Reba knew would add value to her future resume. When that assignment ended, Reba returned to Personnel Partners with an even more impressive skill set and a strong client recommendation.

Meanwhile, one of the area's largest employers asked for coverage during a maternity leave for a corporate officer's Executive Assistant. Reba filled that temporary need so well that after the original employee returned from leave, the on-site supervisors asked if she might be available to handle some special projects. She was, and it turned out that during that time a second temporary leave occurred within the same department. Reba was asked if she would be interested in covering that temporary leave, and she gladly took on the third challenge.

This being a major employer with hundreds of office workers, it was almost inevitable that yet another leave came up elsewhere in the company while Reba was making herself useful. This leave was going to result in a permanent opening for an Executive Assistant to another company officer. By now, Reba was well known enough within the organization that she was asked to interview for the opening, and her hiring was a mere formality. The flexibility of temporary employment paid off for both Reba and our client!
