We are constantly looking for ways to give our clients the most value for their investment.  While we sometimes take our candidate testing for granted, more and more we find that you do not - and in fact many of you have wished that you had access to something similar to use as a tool to evaluate your own employees.  We think you'll be pleased to find that we've made a way to give our clients access to that testing at no cost.  Read the article at right to find out how you may already be earning testing reward credits for 2010.

According to the latest 10-year U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment projections, job growth in the employment services industry is expected to be nearly twice the rate of overall job growth in the economy.

Released in December 2009, the 2008-18 projections anticipate job growth in the employment services industry to increase by almost 600,000, or 19.1%, over this period. By comparison, BLS forecasts that job growth for all industries in the U.S. economy will be 10.1%.

The temporary help industry is the largest segment of employment services, comprising almost 75% of this broader industrial classification. The remaining subdivisions include employment placement firms and professional employer organizations.

BLS research cites growing demand among employers for more flexible work arrangements as a driving force behind this expected growth in temporary help jobs. Challenges presented by the latest economic recession have pushed many businesses to explore the use of staffing strategies that are more responsive and more readily adapted to changes in consumer demand for their goods and services. Employing temporary workers with specialized skills will allow businesses to reduce costs resulting from hiring and maintaining idle full-time employees while also enabling them to provide quality services or goods to maintain a profitable business.

Temporary help occupations projected to have the highest job growth over the 2008-18 period include health care-related positions, office and administrative support positions, engineering positions, and transportation and material moving occupations. Specifically, the aging baby boomer population and growing demand for medical services were cited as the main drivers behind the high percentage of job growth expected for health care practitioners, medical technicians, and registered nurses.

BLS also projects a significant increase in managerial occupations, as both federal and state government agencies are increasingly expected to contract out the management functions of their agencies.

We Have Great Testing Options and We're Not Afraid to Use Them!
 

 

There is no excuse for not knowing a candidate's skill level when you have a contract, as we do, with an industry-leading software company offering an impressive variety of skills tests for nearly any office skill imaginable.  Additionally, we subscribe to aptitude tests that help us assess a candidate's likely fit in a particular role ranging from taking an accurate message to working as a Human Resource Manager.  These tests are standardized and can be administered through a web portal (allowing you to schedule them at your own worksite) or at multiple workstations in each of our offices.

Clients who have asked for access to this testing in the past have faced dilemmas such as:  What is a fair way to make sure the boss's nephew is actually qualified for this special project?  How do I decide which long-time Clerk III to promote to this Clerk IV opening when they've both performed well in their current jobs?  When I need to hire someone outside of Personnel Partners, how can I take advantage of some of their screening to help make the best choice?  In all those cases, and in others, we have been willing to arrange a testing session for a per-test fee similar to our own.
 
Because we see this as a way to add value to your company outside of our typical placement services, we want to encourage our clients to take advantage of this resource more frequently.  Beginning January 1, we will be tracking the dollars you've spent on staffing here as though they earned points to spend on free testing sessions. Every $5,000 invoiced will automatically earn your organization a testing session at which one individual may be administered two tests of your choosing.  Your file in our system will automatically keep a current total of points earned, and you need only to call a placement manager to schedule a session or arrange an e-ticket at a mutually convenient time.
