Employees Celebrate Staffing OpportunitiesShort Story Contest Winner!
For fame, fortune (and prizes), Placement Manager Margaret Burns recently invited our employees who had been successfully placed on assignment and/or in permanent jobs to feature themselves and our client business in a short story about how staffing made a positive difference in their career.  Here's what she heard and selected from Starr Jackson, currently on assignment at our client ABRO Industries, where Starr fills a key administrative role:

"I saw an ad on-line for Personnel Partners, and after contacting them (with resume and application) was set up for an interview.  After the interview, there was a testing process that was also able to be done on-line; I surprised myself with my test scores!

They proceeded to call me for an interview with a South Bend company (ABRO Industries - a distributor of automotive and household products).  The next day, I was interviewed by two very nice people with that company; an HR person and my current supervisor. The opening was for an Administrative Assistant, and it was offered to me on the spot - they even asked if I could start the very next day!  Of course, the answer was YES!

I have been here every day since that first day in April, and I love what I am doing; everyone in this company is wonderful.  My supervisor has commented that I have caught on quickly and am doing a good job; I am being considered for potential hire there.  This has been a learning experience and a fun challenge where tasks are added all the time, making the days go fast and keeping me busy.

Personnel Partners has helped me find a fun job with a wonderful work environment.  I am happy and believe I have found job stability to last for many years to come."

Watch for more of Starr's story in local media.  She will be our featured employee and wins a gas card in addition to the fame!

Would You Sparkle on Camera? Video Resumes

Video resumes are a relatively new tool that most employers and hiring managers have not seen, but a majority of employers would consider taking a look if a job applicant submitted one, a new survey says.

Slightly more than half (58 percent) of employers and hiring managers responding to a survey by Vault, Inc. said they would prompted by "sheer curiosity" to view a video resume, while about one-third (31 percent) definitely think video resumes would be valuable in considering job applicants.

Aside from the 9 percent who cited the amusement value as the reason to view a video resume, and the 1 percent who said it was a great way to check out a job candidate's looks, 52 percent think video resumes are a good way to assess a job candidate's professional demeanor and presentation.

While an employer hasn't violated the prohibitions of employment laws by learning information about an applicant's race, looks, or even potential disability, the employer may not use that information to discriminate in hiring.  This causes many legal departments to be nervous about the availability of video resumes; citing factors such as the unequal availability of comparable production equipment or even the access to recording equipment.

While determining the role that video will play in its review of resumes, employers will be wise to keep in mind that not everyone comes across well on camera.  As this particular technology develops, norms and standards will develop around it to control any potential for abuse.

Referrals Wanted!

Our best new candidates come from referrals made by current and former employees.  While we cannot guarantee a job to everyone who applies, we are always interested in meeting qualified job seekers who may end up being a match for job orders today, next week, next month, or any time in the future.  If you know someone who wants to add a good option to his or her job search, please send them our way.

Currently, we are especially interested in meeting:
  • Legal Secretaries or Legal Assistants
  • Candidates with Medical Office experience
  • Accounting personnel at all levels
Over the past 11 years I have been with Personnel Partners, I have met many people both looking for employment or seeking an employee to fill a need.  That aspect is still truly my favorite part of being in placement - meeting everyone. Thank you to everyone I have worked with in one way or another.  It would not be the same without YOU!

Sincerely,
PERSONNEL PARTNERS, INC.

Margaret
